Consultation
At your initial consultation, we will meet with you and go over your concerns and collect information to make a treatment plan. For some procedures, this initial consultation can be done on the phone. This is particularly helpful if you are traveling a significant distance to see us. Once we receive the referral slip from your dentist, our staff will give you a call to either set up a consultation appointment at our office or a phone consultation appointment. A referral slip is not necessary if you are not being referred by another dentist however your consultation may cost more. We usually charge $60 CDN for the consultation which is paid at the appointment even if you have insurance. We will take cash, Visa, MasterCard and debit. We do not take cheques. Please make sure that we receive any xrays from your referring dentist prior to the consultation. There may be additional fees for xrays, diagnostic models, ct scan etc.
Fees
We charge at the BC fee guide for surgical procedures (wisdom teeth extractions etc). This means that these procedures may cost less than if performed by a specialist. Also we will accept insurance and so you may not have to pay upfront if your insurance covers a part or all of the cost.
BC fee guide: This is the cost for dental treatment as suggested by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC which regulates dentists in BC. You can contact the CDSBC at www.cdsbc.org or at 604 736 3621
Dental Insurance
There are two ways to approach payments for your procedure.
- We can send out the cost estimate for the treatment to your insurance company and wait to hear back from them as to how much they will pay. It can take anywhere from one day to three weeks to hear back from your insurance company. We can book your appointment after we receive written confirmation from them. You would have to pay only the amount not covered by your insurance and not the total amount depending on your contract with them. To use this option you will have to leave your credit card information with us. We expect that the insurance company will pay us the rest. Please be informed that your insurance company may delay paying us, may pay you directly or they may not pay us at all. If your insurance company does not pay us within one month of the procedure, we will charge your credit card after informing you by phone at the phone number you have given us.
Your insurance company may not pay any or all of what they promised to pay due to many factors, some of which are that the information that was given to us was incorrect; you have exceeded your limit for benefits for the year, etc. You will have to take up any complaints with your insurance company.
- You can pay the total amount at the time of procedure. You may want to do this if you do not want to wait to hear back from the insurance company either because you are having pain or have other time constraints or you do not want to leave your credit card information with us. We would like to assure you that all your private information is kept securely. We will send your claim forms to your insurance company. They should pay you their percentage based on your contract with them. Please understand that your insurance company may not pay what you expected them to pay. It is your responsibility to clarify with them.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE A CONTRACT WITH YOUR INSURANCE AND WE ARE NOT A PART OF THIS CONTRACT.
